From April 9 to 10, 2025, Xing Feng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and president of Jinan University, led a delegation to visit the University of Science and Technology of Macau (MUST) and the University of Macau (UM). The purpose of this visit was to deepen collaborations in scientific research, talent training, and the coordinated development of education within the context of the Greater Bay Area.

Strengthening Cooperation with Macau University of Science and Technology
On the afternoon of April 9, during a joint ceremony attended by Liao Zeyun, supervisor at MUST and a member of the Jinan University Board of Directors, Xing Feng signed two pivotal agreements with Li Xingwei, president of MUST. These agreements included:
1.Memorandum of Understanding on Academic Cooperation between Jinan University and Macau University of Science and Technology.
2.Exchange Student Agreement between Jinan University and Macau University of Science and Technology.
These agreements aim to facilitate collaborative scientific research projects, promote student exchanges, and enhance academic partnerships, ultimately cultivating talents with both international perspectives and regional insights.
Liao Zeyun noted that this signing marks a significant upgrade to the strategic partnership formed in 2019, emphasizing the importance of aligning educational initiatives with national needs, regional priorities, and leveraging the strengths of both institutions. This collaboration is expected to inject new vitality into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
President Xing emphasized that the collaboration aligns with General Secretary Xi Jinping's vision for both universities, aiming to meet the developmental needs of the region. He expressed optimism about utilizing the national key laboratories at both institutions to enhance cooperation in fields like biomedicine and information technology, transforming research outcomes into practical solutions for regional development.
Advancing Cooperation at the University of Macau
On April 10, Xing Feng and his delegation visited the University of Macau, where they engaged in discussions with Song Yonghua, President of UM, and Gong Zhiming, Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government. The focus was on enhancing joint talent cultivation and fostering the high-quality development of higher education in the Greater Bay Area.
Since the signing of the Research Cooperation and Academic Exchange Agreement in 2019, both universities have enjoyed successful outcomes, including faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative research initiatives. Looking ahead, President Xing proposed several strategies:
?Further strengthening joint graduate training through shared educational resources, reciprocal mentorship programs, and collaborative guidance for graduate students.
?Deepening partnerships in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, smart cities, low-altitude economy, and smart energy, while leveraging the geographical proximity of both universities to intensify joint research projects.
?Actively exploring the establishment of a joint research platform aimed at promoting the global dissemination of Chinese culture and innovative collaborative cultural initiatives across regions.
Song Yonghua conveyed that the University of Macau’s development orientation aligns closely with Jinan University’s mission—focused on building the Bay Area, integrating with national initiatives, and expanding globally. He expressed hopes of leveraging collaborative platforms such as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance to cultivate multi-dimensional talents.
Gong Zhiming expressed the Education Bureau's commitment to supporting deeper educational cooperation and resource sharing among universities to foster broader opportunities for youth development in the Greater Bay Area.

The visit by President Xing Feng and his delegation represents a significant step towards enhancing educational collaboration and talent development between Jinan University and higher education institutions in Macao.
