On April 11, 2025, the International Energy College hosted the Academicians' Campus Tour · Famous Teachers' Forum at the Zhuhai campus of Jinan University. The highlight of the event was a special academic lecture delivered by Academician Xue Yusheng, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and a leading expert in stability theory and power system automation. He is also the honorary president of the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute.

Professor Qu Ting, Executive Director of the Zhuhai Campus Management Committee and Dean of the Zhuhai Research Institute, was present for the lecture, along with Professor Wen Fushuan from Zhejiang University. The event attracted over 300 attendees, including faculty and students, who gathered in the academic lecture hall of the administrative office building to hear Academician Xue’s insights.

A Vision for Complex System Optimization

Academician Xue, renowned for his contributions to power system stability and automation, presented his academic report titled Optimization of Complex System Planning - Taking New Power Systems as an Example. His lecture was structured around four main themes:

1.Coordinated Development of Energy, Environment, and Economy Systems

2.Overall Restoration of Deterministic System Evolution Behavior

3.Candidate Path Evaluation Methods in Multi-Objective Programming

4.Evolutionary Risk Management under High-Dimensional Random Factors

Throughout the presentation, Academician Xue elaborated on the complexities involved in planning new power systems, including the various optimization challenges and methodologies. He shared his inspiring journey through the intricacies of academic research, revealing the obstacles he faced and the ways he addressed them.

Inspiring Future Generations

In addition to his technical discourse, Academician Xue offered valuable insights aimed at encouraging young students. He emphasized the importance of respecting scientific inquiry and self-development, urging students to adopt a global perspective in their life planning. He motivated them to embrace challenges, relentlessly pursue excellence, and be unafraid to explore the unknown.

The seminar concluded on a warm and optimistic note, reinforcing the importance of academic exchange and mentorship.

Campus Tour and Ongoing Collaboration

Following the lecture, Academician Xue Yusheng and Professor Wen Fushuan, accompanied by Director Qu Ting and Deputy Secretary Xiao Yun, toured the Zhuhai campus, including visits to the Zhuhai Science and Technology Park and the research institute. This tour further solidified the collaborative spirit and shared mission of advancing research and education in energy systems.

The successful completion of this academic event not only showcased the rich intellectual culture at Jinan University but also highlighted the significance of fostering connections between academia and industry in the evolving field of energy and technology.
